Biography

  Born in Pittsburgh, Pa , Anthony Mitchell Jr is a young premiere artist in the arts community. Mr.Mitchell's childhood was engulfed in a rich artistic and spiritual environment.  At a very young age Mitchell begin learning the traditional styles of West African and Afro Latin music.

 

Mitchell was mentored by Baba Eric Rucker (Omi Ala) noted Olorisha and musician as well as Baba Temujin Ekunfeo( Obalorun) , Nego Gato (Afro Bahia) and many more  who rapidly began his journey and passion into his lifelong quest and proffesional career in the study of cultural music of the African Diasporia.

 

Mitchell has been a performer, teacher and preserver of African culture for over 20 years and continues to peruse new musical journeys every day.

 

In May 2015, Mr. Mitchell was awarded the Advancing Black Arts Grant from The Pittsburgh Foundation and Heinz Endowments to  further develop his knowledge and skills performing Afro-Latin scared and secular music
