
2015-2016 Primiere of "Project: Tambou Cimarron"
Tambou Cimarron (Drums of Freedom) is an experimental arts collective that aspires to the commitment and preservation of Afro-Diasporic folklore as well as to encourage the cross-cultural understanding of music and dance forms derived from African culture.
Creating a developmental series of master workshops and dynamic exhibitions and performances, Tambo Cimarron will serve as an informational instrument by using traditional repertoire that pays tribute to African lineages derived from the Yoruba, Congo, Arará and Dahomean cultures of Africa and Caribbean
Project Leader and Artistic Director Anthony Mitchell Jr, has been researching, collecting, conserving the Afro-Diasporic folkloric repertoire including the Afro-Caribbean manifestations brought to the islands by Africans of Congo/Bantu and Yoruba traditions, as well as the strong influences of the Afro-Haitian migration to Cuba

Performances
During the project Tambou Cimarron will present performance pieces.
This piece will be an interpretation of spiritual and mythic entities from Afro-Cuban cosmology.Personification of such natural elements as the nurturing ocean mother, the turbulent wind, lightning and fire, and the sweet water of the river are danced to intricate batá drum rhythms and a chorus of song, filling the stage with their powerful presence.
